Grooming plays a vital role in your dog’s health & wellbeing which can improve their overall lifespan. All Breeds require daily grooming, how much depends on the breed, age, or health of the pet. Regular grooming helps to ensure that your dog is healthy and comfortable. It is important to note that while many dogs shed, others (such as the Shih Tzu, Bichon Frise & Poodle), do not shed as profusely, and require grooming by a professional every 6–8 weeks at the very maximum. The main reasons for daily grooming include: • decreased chance of various health problems, such as skin problems, ear infections & parasites • general cleanliness of your dog • monitoring of your dogs health by checking for cuts, bumps/lumps, swelling, lameness, or changes in temperament, all of which could be indicative of illness • reducing infestation load of external parasites on skin.
As a puppy owner you have probably already been made aware of how important it is to expose your new puppy to as many new experiences as possible to ensure they grow into well socialised & happy dogs – dog grooming both at home and at the Grooming Salon would be at the top of that list. We strongly urge you to book your puppy in for its first “puppy groom” a few days after he/she has had its final set of vaccinations (this is usually at 12 weeks). It is very important to get your puppy used to the grooming environment and ensure they do not develop a fear of grooming.
“Matting” refers to densely tangled clumps of fur in your dog’s coat. If your dog’s coat is not properly and/or frequently brushed, loose and live hair become embedded in large masses. These matts can be extremely painful for your dog and can cause bruising, or worse to their skin. Another problem with matting is that you cannot see what is underneath the matted fur – many time there could be cuts or parasites lurking below so it is vital for your dogs health that it remains matt-free at all times.
Your dog’s hygiene is paramount to it’s overall health & well-being. Whilst we endeavour to make sure every dog leaves Gabby & Miley’s Grooming Studio prettier on the outside we also want to ensure they are healthy on the inside!
